Johnny Ward launches 'Frame of Mind'.

Short film competition for mental health awareness

Love/Hate actor Johnny Ward has launched the St Patrick's Mental Health Services inaugural short-film competition ‘Frame of Mind’. Ward (aka Paulie) urged people to get involved in the competition which aims to create mental health awareness.

He said: “I’m delighted to be involved with this project given the extent of mental health difficulties in this country. It’s more important now than ever to start the conversation and promote the message of recovery”

Aspiring film-makers are asked to create a short-film of two to three minutes long that they believe exemplifies the importance of positive mental health.  The competition is open to everyone over 18 years of age and provides an opportunity to showcase their film-making talents by creating an original and brave ‘short’.

To enter the competition, submit the concept of your short-film, in no more than 800 words with a working title. Concepts can be submitted through www.stpatricks.ie/frameofmind and must be sent by Friday 31st October, 2014. The entrants will be notified by email if they have made it through to the second stage of the competition.

Sarah Surgenor, communications manager at St Patricks Mental Health Services said, “St. Patrick’s have always supported the strong link between Mental Health and the Creative Arts so we are excited to support this project. We are looking for original, wise, brave, eye-opening and creative short-films that will inspire others with their positive message.”

An awards ceremony will be held in St Patrick’s University Hospital on December 9th where 10 of the short-listed films will be shown. Johnny Ward will present the winner with €1,000, the first runner with €500 and the second runner up with €300.
