Meath win in Castlebar - green light for next weekend's club fixtures

Meath escaped from McHale Park in Castlebar today with a 0-16 to 0-15 Christy Ring Cup quarter-final victory over Mayo thanks to a late Steven Clynch point and booked a place directly in the semi-finals.

Mayo will have another chance in a back-door game next weekend and today were boosted by the return of footballer Keith Higgins to the starting 15.

Mayo's Kenny Feeney sent over four early frees which helped his side to a  0-10 to 0-9 half-time lead, but it was 0-11 each early in the second half before the Royals scored four points in-a-row.

Both sides had chances to win the game and Clynch edged it for the Royal County.

Meath - Charlie Bird; Cormac O'Reilly, Neil McLoughlin, David Donoghue; Peter Farrell, Steven Clynch (0-8 five frees, two 65s) Shane Whitty (0-1); Sean Heavey (0-1), Darren Reilly; Caoimhin King (0-2), James Toher, Johnny Meyler (0-1); Willie McGrath (0-2), Damien Healy, Stephen Morris.
