Minor hurlers edged out

Meath completed their Leinster MHL campaign on a losing note when they were edged out in Trim this afternoon by a strong Westmeath side who won by 2-13 to 1-12.

Meath missed a first-half penalty and conceded a goal in added time before the break which left them ahead by the minimum (0-9 to 1-5) after playing with the elements.

Westmeath grabbed a second goal scarcely a minute after the resumption which helped them into a 2-9 to 0-9 lead by the three-quarter stage.

Westmeath were reduced to 14 when Darren Giles picked up a second yellow card with 10 minutes remaining, but the hosts were unable to capitalise.
