Hurlers lose opener against Down

Meath made a losing start (1-10 to 4-12) to the Leinster MHL at Trim today when they were well beaten by Down in an open game that produced lots of good passages of play on a pitch that was in good condition.

Under the guidance of manager Stephen Masterson (pictured) and selectors Eanna Greene and and John Farrell Meath were well in contention at the interval as they trailed by the minimum 0-6 to 0-7.

However, Down upped the tempo in thes econd-half and managed to find the net four times which left it very difficult for the hosts who scored a late penalty goal from Luke Swaine.

Meath scorers:Luke Swaine 1-0, Mark Slevin 0-4, Josh Wall 0-3, Martin Healy 0-1, Ross Ryan 0-1, Liam Carey 0-1.

Meath will travel to play Offaly next Saturday and will complete their group with a home game against Westmeath on Saturday 15th March.
