Hurlers advance in Kehoe Cup

Meath recorded a facile 2-17 to 0-5 Kehoe Cup victory over Wicklow in a quarter-final tie at Trim today where the men from the Garden County failed to score in the second-half and finished with 13 players.

Meath were ahead by 0-6 to -5 at the interval and had 30 scoring chances in a second-half during which they tallied 17 wides.

Against the first-half elements Meath looked capable of handling a full strength Wicklow side and were ahead by 0-4 to 0-3 when the Wicklow men were reduced to 14 after full-back Graham Keogh picked up a straight red card.

Meath were never under any serious pressure after the resumption and when Peter Durnin found the net towards the end of the third-quarter there was no way back for Wicklow and it got worse for the visitors when midfielder Stephen Kelly picked up a second yellow card.

Meath  will be hoping for a competitive outing next Sunday when they tackle Derry in the semi-final of the Kehoe Cup.
Derry accounted for Trinity today by 3-11 to 2-11.
