A U -turn on the U-turn!

Last Monday night at the monthly Co Board meeting there were calls from Meath hurling officials to support the proposal that was due to come before the Central Council meeting today to change the format of the National Hurling League that would have included relegated Cork and Limerick in the top tier.

However, another proposal was put forward at today's meeting for a different format and a decision on the matter was postponed pending further consultation with the stakeholders.

Wexford and Offaly had expressed strong opposition to the original proposal that would have seen Cork and Limerick avoiding relegation.

An alternative proposal was put forward today by National Fixtures Planning Committee member Michael Burns and a decision will be made as soon as possible.

It is proposed to introduce a seeded system in two six-team Div 1 sections.

First seeds - Kilkenny, Galway, Tipperary, Waterford.

Second seeds - Clare, Limerick, Dublin, Cork.

Third seeds - Wexford, Offaly, Antrim, Laois.

Each team will play five games in their section with the top two qualifying for semi-finals. The bottom teams in each group will meet in a relegation final.

Each county would also play the two teams of the same grade in the opposite section.

MEATH

This doesn't really matter to Meath whowill remain in Div 2B for next year.

Meath hurlers are still without a manager despite playing their last game some three months ago.
