Kilmessan clinch 29th SHC crown

Leading from start to finish Kilmessan won their 29th SHC crown when they defeated Longwood 2-16 to 0-11 at Pairc Tailteann today.

The game was far from a classic but Kilmessan won't be too concerned about that as they subdued the challenge of Longwood.

Man of the match Darren Reilly showed the way for Kilmessan with nine points, eight from frees, the other from a '65.'

Ahead 0-8 to 0-5 at the interval Kilmessan took a firm hold on this game with 46 minutes on the clock when Ger O'Neill played the ball into Steven Clynch who fired to the net.

That score put Kilmessan 1-11 to 0-9 ahead and from then on James Heffernan's side drove home their superiority although Aaron Ennis and Anthony Healy did subsequently go close to finding the net for Longwood.

Playing craftier hurling Kilmessan closed out the game in the closing stages and in injury time Nicky Horan added a second goal to seal his team's 29th crown before a crowd of about 2,500.
