Keith Donegan set to finish season in style

Young Meath racing driver Keith Donegan will go into the last weekend of the Ginetta Junior Championship UK at Brands Hatch on Sunday 12th October in prime position to finish second in the standings after some stunning results at Silverstone.

The championship winner is already known as UK driver Harry Woodhead has taken the title, but the race is on for second place.

The Navan teenager won both races at Silverstone last Sunday in front of a bumper crowd to enhance his growing reputation in the sport.

“It was the perfect weekend for me, my pace was great, so I knew I could fight for wins,” he commented.

“I’was delighted to take the two race wins in such fashion at Silverstone because they were definitely the two closest and most hard-fought races all year so it’s good to emerge on top,” he added.

After missing out on the first race pole position by just 0.162 seconds, Keith set about getting to the front of the field from the off last Sunday morning, something which he was confident of being able to do.

During an epic battle for the lead, at times involving a train of seven or eight cars, Keith came out on top, taking the win by less than a second from already-crowned 2013 Champion, Harry Woodhead.

High on confidence from the morning’s race, the Meath teenager then did similar in race two, once again winning from Woodhead, but this time by an even closer margin, proving how closely fought the racing can be in the

The wins at Silverstone made the weekend sweeter for Donegan.

“To win at Silverstone was a great ambition of mine, as it’s a great venue with so much history behind it and the legends of Motorsport have all won there.

“To take the two wins there was very emotional for me and the team who worked so hard all year and I was more than happy to take my fourth win of the season for them.”

With just two races of the 2013 now left at Brands Hatch the teenager is hoping to finish the season with an even bigger bang.

“I’m hoping to come home victorious in both of them, carry on the momentum and finish on a high, as now I’ve nearly secured second place in the championship.”
