Plenty of drama as Clann na nGael make IFC cut

With the help of a late point from Gary Hanley Clann na nGael booked their place in the IFC semi-finals at Cortown this evening with a 1-9 to 1-8 win over Dunderry.

Victory for either side would have ensured a place in the last four but it was Clann na nGael who made it across the line after leading 0-5 to 0-4 at the break.

It was looking good for Dunderry when on 43 minutes Damien Clarke bundled the ball across the line for a goal and put his side 1-6 to 1-6 ahead.

However, a tenacious Clann na nGael side hit back with a goal of their own six minutes later when full-back Darren Kelly fired to the net from close range.

Athboy's Gary Woods and Dunderry's Stephen Coogan exchanged points to set up a grandstand finish with Hanley popping up with what proved to be the winner with time almost up.

The match was refereed by Cormac Reilly who takes charge of the Kerry v Dublin All-Ireland SFC semi-final on Sunday.
