Kilmessan best in shoot-out

They took the scenic route but Kilmessan won the North East Women's Football League Challenge Cup final when they defeated Kells 3-0 on penalties at the MDL today.

The sides were scoreless after extra-time with very few scoring opportunities created by either side.

In the penalty shoot-out Avril McGowan, Lisa Donnelly and Sarah Stanley converted their spot kicks while Kells were unable to score from any of their attempts. 

Kilmessan goalkeeper Sarah Ward also played her part as she saved two of the Kells penalties.

In the Shield final Kenstown defeated Kingscourt 1-0 with Sarah Crosby scoring the all-important goal.
