Ann Murphy, Kilmessan

There was widespread sadness in Kilmessan and surrounding areas following the death on Sunday evening of last week of Ann Murphy, Riverstown, Kilmessan, at the age of 53.

Deceased was a member of a well-known family in Kilmessan, and was involved in fundraising for the Irish Kidney Association following a transplant in 2008.

In 2010, to mark her 50th birthday, she organised a major function for the association in the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan. Ann worked at Murray of Balgeeth, and later at Frank Murray’s Navan Steel. Her husband, Michael, who works at Ennistown Stud, served as chairman of Kilmessan Hurling Club in recent years.

Ann is survived by her husband, Michael; family, Terence, Simon, Michelle and Tara; mother, May Foley, Kilcarty Road, Kilmessan; mother-in-law, Peggy Murphy, Swainstown, Kilmessan, brother-in-law, Frank Murphy, Swainstown; extended family, relatives and friends.

The funeral took place from the Church of the Nativity, Kilmessan, to the adjoining cemetery, celebrated by Fr Terence Toner, Kilmessan, and Fr Joe Gleeson, Rathfeigh.

Maeve O’Connor, Enfield

The passing of Maeve O’Connor, Martinstown, Johnstownbridge, Enfield, (pictured below) on 23rd July last, was the cause of widespread regret. Aged 86, she died peacefully at her residence.

Mrs O’Connor (nee Kenny) was a native of Lahinch, Co Clare, and was predeceased by her husband, Michael, in May 1987. She will be remembered as a nurse, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Deceased is survived by her daughters, Oonagh Heeran, Ballinlig, Broadford, Co Kildare; Paula Holton, Martinstown, Johnstownbridge; Maeve Corrigan, Firmore, Trim; Michele O’Connor, Martinstown; and Noranne Callagy, Moyvalley, Broadford; sons-in-law; 14 grandchildren; brothers; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

The funeral took place from Johnstownbridge Church to Dangan Cemetery, Summerhill.

Padraig Smith, Cavan

The death occurred in mid-July of the well-known north east auctioneer and valuer, Padraig Smith of Beech Hill House, Kilmore, Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan. Mr Smith died peacefully at his home on 16th July last, aged 60. A native of Lavey, Mr Smith began his career as a livestock auctioneer in 1974, working in marts the length and breadth of the north east and midlands regions. He moved into property 10 years later, opening offices in Ballyjamesduff and Cavan town, later opening another office in Clones.

Deceased was elected to the Irish Property, Auctioneers and Valuers National Council in 2001 and has served as junior and senior vice-president. In 2011 he was appointed the association’s president at a ceremony in the Slieve Russell Hotel, Ballyconnell, in one of his proudest moments.

Mr Smith is survived by his wife, Mairead; family, Raymond, Rachel, Darren, Donna, Melanie and Mark; sisters, Margaret, Dolores; and brother, Pete. He was predeceased by his brother, Phelim.

The funeral took place from St Joseph’s Church, Ballyjamesduff, to the new cemetery. Donations, if desired, can be made to the Irish Kidney Association, in his memory.

Andrew McPhillips, Navan

The regretted death occurred on 29th June last of Andrew (Andy) McPhillips, Blackcastle, Navan, a former garda sergeant in the town. Mr McPhillips died at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, aged 79.

A native of Cavan, he had 34 years’ service with the Garda force, and was a member of the FCA before joining An Garda Siochana in 1960. Deceased served the communities of Omeath, Dundalk, Lusk, Nobber, and Navan, where he was stationed from 1974 until retirement in 1994. His interests included gardening, dancing, walking, reading and crosswords.

Mr McPhillips is survived by his wife, Sarah (Ita); daughters, Mary, Virginia; Geraldine, Andrea and Caroline, all Navan; sons, Bernard and Nigel, Navan, and Paul, Kentstown; grandchildren; brothers, Sean, England, Brendan and Anthony, Cavan; sister, Rosemary, Cavan; sisters-in-law; brother-in-law; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; nieces and nephews; relatives and friends.

The funeral took place from St Oliver Plunkett’s Church, Blackcastle, to Kilberry Cemetery.
