Coscoran rules in the rain at Santry

Star of the Sea athlete Andrew Coscoran won the national Junior 3,000-metre title at rain-lashed Morton Stadium on Sunday.

Coscoran took to the line as National u-18 1,500m and 3,000m champion and the step up in class was not an  issue.

Coscoran produced a superb finish to pip the late-surging Mitchell Byrne (Rathfarnham), both finished in 9.11:40, with Clonliffe’s Aaron Hanlon in third.

Coscoran had looked set to take the title by a comfortable margin, but a late dip by Byrne forced the judges into action.

Last week Coscoran won the u-18 title over the prestigious 1,500m in fine style at Tullamore.
