Farrell needs more game-time

COMMENT

With 42 minutes played in last Saturday’s Leinster SFC encounter Brian Farrell ran onto the field to replace Damien Carroll.

It was the latest attempt by the Nobberman to impress the current Meath management who haven’t given him too many opportunities up to now.

This year Farrell has been restricted to cameo roles and it has clearly done little to help his confidence.

He didn’t look comfortable when he did get his chance against Wicklow, the assurance of last year clearly missing.

So far Farrell has scored only eight points, a far cry from 2012 when he was terrorising defences with scores from frees and open play.

Up to the All-Ireland SFC final he was the country’s topscorer only by-passed by Donegal’s Colm McFadden who had more opportunities to add to his account.

Meath could do with a Farrell who is on form but we won’t get that until he gets more game-time.
