The Bahh Band

More acts for Body and Soul

Body&Soul at Ballinlough Castle in Clonmellon has announced six additional acts to a line-up that already includes the likes of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Solange, PiL and James Murphy. Featuring acclaimed Irish and international acts, the final music announcement will further delight those in search of the most awe-inspiring and eclectic line-up of the summer festival season.

Michael Mayer is one of the key figureheads of the German electronic explosion. As a DJ, producer and remixer, he is the enduring Godfather of Cologne’s dance scene. As a co-owner of Kompakt, he spends his weekdays deciding what will be released on the label and working with the label's artists and overseeing Kompakt's distribution wing - the home of over 50 record labels. The rest of the time he travels the globe performing to millions of electronic music fans, including the Westmeath faithful later this month.

Overhead, The Albatross will be making their Westmeath debut in 2013. The alt-rock instrumentalists have taken the Irish gigging circuit by storm. With a protracted recording sabbatical in Prague under their belt, the band is set for a stratospheric rise and is in the process of recording their debut album. Skilfully blending complex instrumentation, modulations and time signature changes, the proficiency of these young musicians is stunning. With recent performances at the Camden Crawl and on the Dan Hegarty Show extremely well-received, OTA are a blistering live force to be reckoned with.

Hailing from Botswana, via Dublin, London and Montpellier, Candice Gordon currently resides in Berlin. In April this year she released ‘Before the Sunset Ends’, a six track mini album that she recorded with The Pogues’ legendary frontman Shane MacGowan. Cinematic, effortlessly orchestrated and lush with instrumentation, Candice takes inspiration from the wide screen westerns of the past and dark European folk. Beautifully rendered recordings, Gordon is unmissable.

Aindrias De Staic is an accomplished musician, playwright, experimentalist and actor. As incomparable as he is indefinable, Aindrias’ rich and rare style of fiddle playing is as unique to the west of Ireland as his story-telling, antics and humour. Part thespian, part Avant Garde hell raiser, he is well known internationally for his one man theatre show ‘Around the World on 80 quid’ which won Best Solo Show at New Zealand Fringe and rave reviews throughout Australia.

Irish traditional infused House Music sensation, Daithi will make his return to Body&Soul this Summer Solstice weekend. Rubbing shoulders on the live circuit with the likes of DJ Shadow, Santigold, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, De La Soul and Todd Terje, his latest single, ‘Chameleon Life’, is the result of unlikely coincidences and chance encounters. The result is a direct blast of electronic pop with its hands raised high to the summer sun.

The Bahh Band is what occurs when an ancient Eastern musical tradition gets thrown upon the shores of a buzzing multi-cultural city in the west of Ireland. The result is Irish-Indo-Blues-Gypsy-Soul explorations. Fused upon on a bedrock of Indian classical music, tangled up with bluegrass and driven by pulsating acoustic and electric rhythms and infused with ethereal vocals in the style of Eastern and Irish traditions, The Bahh Band brew up a beautiful musical melting pot. This is fusion music at its best - expertly arranged, relaxed and organic.

Body&Soul is the summer’s hottest festival ticket. With particular focus on the artistic areas and smaller parts of the festival, the organisers have placed equal importance on the peripheral stages and areas to include a full Friday line up in the woods and walled gardens, a carefully selected pop-up restaurant, spoken word events, performance art, theatrics, Soul Kids family programming and a host of other unique and exciting elements.

Falling on the Summer Solstice in 2013, Body&Soul will celebrate age old traditions in its own modern way. Guests can expect a particularly colourful celebration with a selection of some of the most ground breaking artists of the last three decades performing alongside alternative icons and revolutionary game changers.
