Body & Soul adds to eclectic line-up

Body&Soul at Ballinlough Castle in Clonmellon has announced more additions to the most diverse and eclectic line-up of the festival season – including two of the most influential and highly respected electronic producers of the last decade – James Murphy and Nicolas Jaar.

Having created something entirely astounding and individual with LCD Soundsystem, legendary artist, James Murphy, will perform an exclusive DJ set  this summer Solstice weekend, June 21st – 23rd. Renowned for his innate ability to fuse genres on opposite sides of the musical spectrum, this is an absolutely unmissable performance. Consistently lauded as one of the most important musicians of a generation, Murphy will blend his classic repertoire with new tunes and energised remixes...awe-inspiring.

Young American-Chilean trailblazer, Nicolas Jaar will perform a live show at Body&Soul this year, having played a memorable Irish debut show at the festival in 2011. His debut album, Space Is Only Noise, was Pitchfork’s 20th favourite album of 2011, an incredible feat for a young man of just 23. In addition to gushing reviews from the Guardian and All Music, Nicolas is tipped as a prodigious visionary talent perfectly suited to the 21st Century music lover.

Doldrums is the vehicle for Montreal native Airick Woodhead’s creative brilliance. Focussing on the void between consciousness and sleep, he has created a soundscape that is described as electro-hallucinogenic freak outs and fuzzy warm nostalgia. Doldrums’ live shows consist of an energetic four piece band.

Kid Karate comprises of vocalist/guitarist Kevin Breen and drummer Steven Gannon. The band’s musical aesthetic is based around Breen’s thunderous guitar-work and atypical howl, supported by Gannon’s primal drumming style. These elements combined enable the pair to create music that is catchy and intoxicating. Kid Karate make more noise than two people should. They will play tunes from their debut album, Night Terrors. Homegrown talent will be further represented in the guise of legendary reggae/roots act, Rootical Soundsystem who bring their firebrand mix of Afro-Caribbean rhythms to the wilds of Westmeath.

With acts such as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, PiL, Solange and Kurt Vile already announced, Body&Soul is the summer’s hottest festival ticket. With particular focus on the artistic areas and smaller parts of the festival, the organisers have placed equal importance on the peripheral stages and areas to include a full Friday line up in the woods and walled gardens, a carefully selected pop-up restaurant, spoken word events, performance art, theatrics, Soul Kids family programming and a host of other unique and exciting elements.

Falling on the Summer Solstice in 2013, Body&Soul will celebrate age old traditions in its own modern way. Guests can expect a particularly colourful celebration with a selection of some of the most ground breaking artists of the last three decades performing alongside alternative icons and revolutionary game changers.
