Gaeil Colmcille back in title race plus other results

Gaeil Colmcille had plenty of reasons to celebrate at Simonstown this evening following a tremendous IFC second round victory over Trim.

This was a must-win game for the Kells side after they lost in the opening round to St Colmcille's and they turned on the style with a 1-12 to 0-8 victory.

Wind-assisted Gaeil Colmcille were 0-10 to 0-4 ahead at the interval and grabbed an early second-half goal through Martin Barrett.

Trim's cause wasn't helped when they lost influential midfielder Frankie Murphy to a straight red card at the three-quarter stage, but Kells were as good as home at that stage with a 1-11 to 0-5 advantage.

Trim face a must-win game in tghe next round against Donaghmore/Ashbourne - 'We will have to win our next game now after that poor display,' commented Trim Manager John Andrews.
