Massive fundraising drive for accident victim

A massive fundraising drive involving communities across north Meath has been launched in support of 22-year-old John O'Brien from Nobber who broke his neck in a car accident last summer. A son of John and Noreen O'Brien, John is paralysed from the neck down and is currently a patient in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire. He is due to be discharged from hospital in January and, to enable John to come home, an extension must be built to the family home which will cost in excess of €100,000 to build and fit out. Over 100 people from Nobber and communities across north Meath attended a meeting in Nobber Hall last week to launch the campaign, which aims to raise the required €100,000 within two weeks. John, known as JP to many of his friends, is an avid Manchester United fan so the campaign has been launched under the name 'JP United'. A total of 18 communities have come on board to sell tickets door-to-door in their areas for a fundraising night which will take place in Cabra Castle, Kingscourt, on 26th January. Tickets are €25 each. Any other communities who wish to become involved in selling tickets can contact Larry McEntee on (087) 645 8397. Any club, organisation, society, company or individual wishing to make a direct donation to the fund can do so at Bank of Ireland, Kingscourt - Sort Code 90-32-69, Account Number 45714867, Ref 9916-3 JP O'Brien.
