Beauty Queen for Navan stage

Navan Theatre Group this year presents Martin McDonagh's 'The Beauty Queen of Leenane', directed by Nigel Ryan. This is regarded as McDonagh's most insightful work and uncovers with searing honesty the all too human story of two women unable to break free from each other. This is a darkly comic and cruelly humorous story that has the audience both sympathetic and shocked as they enter the lives of Mag and Maureen Folan, a mother and daughter who live in the mountains of Connemara. The mother's fear of abandonment and her daughter's longing for a new life are at the core of the drama. When Mag interferes in Maureen's first and possibly final chance of a loving relationship, it sets in motion a chain of events that lead to a terrifying end. Navan Theatre group has been providing entertainment for over 20 years and looks forward, once again to another wonderful performance this November. This year's director, Nigel, is well known as a teacher in Navan and is familiar to audiences through his performances in many lead roles with the group over the years. As Nigel takes on a different role, this year's cast is made up of Mary Tuite, Ciara Cassoni, Robert Clarke and Maurice Walsh. Play not suitable for children.
