Three off-licences fail garda alcohol purchase test, using 16 year-old boy

Three off-licences in the Kells Garda District served alcohol to a 16-year-old boy during a test purchasing operation carried out by local gardai earlier this month. In the first operation of its kind in the county, 19 off-licences in the Kells district - which also includes Athboy and Oldcastle - were visited by a 16-year-old boy who attempted to purchase alcohol. A plainclothes garda was also on the premises at the time. The premises visited included off-licences but also supermarkets and petrol stations that hold a wine and/or beer licence.
