Cllr Yore's leaflet claiming credit for the Athboy monies.

Cllrs row over credit for Athboy Cowpark money

North Meath Fianna Fail councillor Oliver Fox has hit out at a Fine Gael counterpart for claiming credit for a project she had "no hand, act or part in". Cllr Fox has angrily criticised Fine Gael councillor, Catherine Yore, for distributing a leaflet claiming she had "delivered €500,000" towards the Athboy Sports and Recreational Company's soccer pitches and facilities at the Athboy Cowpark development. Cllr Fox, who is a member of the board of the Athboy project, said that the funding had been secured long before Cllr Yore was a public representative, and that it was actually in danger of being lost under the present Minister For Sport And Tourism, Leo Varadkar, whom Cllr Yore claims was responsible for funding the project. Cllr Yore distributed a leaflet door-to-door around the homes of Athboy, called 'Athboy Update' claiming: "Yore delivers for Athboy! - €500,000 for Cowpark." She said she was "delighted to announce the funding in the amount of €500,000 for the Cowpark leisure facilities development in Athboy. Meath County Council are supporting the development with a grant of €200,000." In response to Cllr Fox's claims, Cllr Yore said: "There is an old saying - 'Don't fool a woman with a promise because she will fool you with a test!' Delivery of funding is all! People are tired of empty promises and the funding for the Cowpark leisure development was a big issue during the 2009 local election campaign."
