Navan Athletic club's bid to insure big numbers

Navan Athletic Club launched the Sheridan Insurances-sponsored Simon Cumbers / Paddy Hyland Road Race at Claremont Stadium last Wednesday night. "We aim to bring the race to a new level and we are delighted to welcome Sheridan Insurances on board as the main sponsor for the event," commented Navan AC chairperson Ann Lister. "I'm delighted that Benny and his wife Miriam are with us for the launch this evening and it's also great to have Meath AAI chairman Brendan Meade here as well. "I'd also like to extend a warm welcome to William O'Reilly from Navan Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber will be helping us to promote the event this year and we have also received great support from all the local clubs, Parkvilla, Navan RFC, Navan O'Mahonys and Simonstown Gaels," she added. The Simon Cumbers / Paddy Hyland 6km Road Race will take place on Friday 11th May, from Claremont Stadium and the support from Sheridan Insurances will assist the club in organising chip timing for each athlete as well as a finish gantry and on-line entries. The organisers have set a target entry of 500 and the Meath AAI president suggested that this number should be achievable and would be a significant boost to the event. "The target is 500 and I'm sure that the club will achieve this goal," stated Benny Sheridan, a member of Bohermeen AC. "We recognise the voluntary effort that goes into a race like this and our involvement enables us to put something back into the local community who support us so well. "It's also nice to see a tribute to Paddy Hyland, he was the quiet man of Navan AC and it's good to see that he is represented by his son, Tony, here this evening. "It's also great that Simon Cumbers is also remembered with an event like this," he added. The late Simon Cumbers was fatally injured in a terrorist attack in Riyadh while working as part of a television reporting crew and his father, Willie, was present at Claremont last week. The Navan Chamber of Commerce official said that his organisation were delighted to be associated with the event. "I'm a colleague of Tony Hyland and this is a fantastic event," he added. Refreshments on the night were sponsored by John Moyles. l Sheridan Insurances & Financial Services is a family-owned business established by Benny Sheridan in 1979.
