Cllr Shane Cassells highlights the poor road conditions in Athboy.

Council to seek NRA funds for Athboy street rebuilding

The move by Meath County Council to re-engage with the NRA in an effort to seek funding for the reconstruction of Athboy Main Street has been welcomed by Meath Fianna Fail whip Cllr Shane Cassells. Initial applications for funding had been turned down by the roads authority but the poor condition of the road, which has infuriated so many local people, has led the council to knock on the door again. Councillors were briefed on the move at the Infrastructure Strategic Policy Committee meeting last week and how moves to reallocate NRA designated monies are being considered. The NRA has sought an updated assessment of the road and pavement condition study from Meath County Council and this is being submitted presently by the Transportation Department.
