Trim takes to the skies for second balloon fiesta

The skies over Trim will become a kaleidoscope of colour this Easter weekend as the Trim Balloon Fiesta gets under way at the Porchfields. Throughout the weekend, there will be a packed programme of events both on and off the ground with something for all the family. One of the real highlights of the fiesta will be the magical night glow event, which will take place on Saturday night at 9.15pm, weather permitting. The balloons inflate after dark and commence a stunning choreographed glow with their burners to the beat of music, against the backdrop of a dazzling laser and strobe light show. This will be followed by a dramatic display from fire jugglers and fire-eaters and stilt-walking LED robots as well as a firework performance for the grand finale. The night glow is due to take place on Saturday night but if the weather is not good enough, the event can be rescheduled for Sunday night, or Monday night, if Sunday's weather is also poor. Some 22 balloons from around Ireland and Europe have registered to take part including a number of special shaped balloons such as the Barretstown Clown, Funny Bunny, Easter Chick, Darth Vader, Smurf, Action Man and more. There will be daily events at the Trim Porchfields with both family activities and adventure activies, as well as the artisan market. Free parking is available beside the Porchfields. All people attending will be given a wrist band as they enter which means they can come and go as they please. Those attending are being advised to to book tickets online to avoid queues on the day and to fast-track entry. Daily tickets cost €10 for adults, €7.50 for students and OAPs and under-12s are free. A three-day adult pass is €20. Entry to the night glow is €5. See www.trimfiesta.com for more details and weather updates.
