Boylan out of picture despite denials

Sean Boylan has reluctantly confirmed that he has stepped down from his role as Director of Football. The former Meath manager, who guided Meath to four All-Ireland titles starting back in 1987 with a memorable victory over Cork, confirmed to the Meath Chronicle on Monday night that he was no longer in that role. Speaking to the Meath Chronicle at Monday night's launch of an event planned to mark the 25th anniversary of the 1987 All-Ireland final win, Boylan confirmed that he has stepped down from the position of Director of Football, "I stepped down some weeks ago, it never really got off the ground, I was given one set of proposals and other things were said publicly," stated Boylan. "I never really had a formal meeting with the Co Board, I met some of the officials, John Kavanagh and Peter O'Halloran and Barney Allen and I was involved in some interviews, but we never really got it off the ground," he added. The matter was raised at last Monday night's Co Committee meeting at Áras Táilteann by Carnaross delegate Eugene Comaskey. "There are rumours circulating that Sean Boylan has stepped down from his role as Director of Football, is that true," questioned the former vice-chairman of Meath Co Committee. The question was swiftly answered by chairman Barney Allen. "That's the first I've heard of it, there is no truth to that at all," replied the Rathkenny clubman There was great enthusiasm for Boylan's appointment when it was announced last year and at that time the chairman suggested that it would be a huge boost for football in Meath.
