Racing families celebrate Carberry-Walsh wedding

Two of the country's most famous racing families became in-laws yesterday (Tuesday) when jockey Nina Carberry and Ted Walsh junior were married in the bride's local parish church in Ratoath. Nina, winning rider in the 2011 Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse, and daughter of Tommy and Pamela (Moore) Carberry, married Ted Walsh, son of RTE racing commentator and former jockey, Ted, and his wife, Helen, in Holy Trinity Church. The wedding party resembled a major racing festival, with Ted's brother, jockey Ruby, as best man, and Paul Carberry a groomsman along with David Coughlan, Ross O'Sullivan and Tom Freyne. They were joined by the extended Carberry, Moore and Walsh families and friends and colleagues from the racing world. Jockey Katie Walsh was bridesmaid along with Sascha Geraghty of another racing clan from Drumree, with Lauryn Shanks Carberry, Berbie Byrne and chief bridesmaid, Helen Ryan. The ceremony was performed by Fr Gerry Stewart, PP, Ratoath, assisted by Fr Phil Gaffney, PP, Curraha-Ardcath, followed by a reception in The Lodge Restaurant at Tayto Park in nearby Curraha.
