Carlanstown group seeks support for village plans
The Carlanstown Renaissance Working Group (RWG) will hold a public meeting in St Michael's GFC on Monday 13th February at 7.30pm to consult with the local community on the proposed plans for a village enhancement scheme for Carlanstown. The village is one of just 10 villages in County Meath selected by Meath Partnership to participate in its Renaissance initiative, which provides support and funding under the LEADER programme to develop plans to protect, celebrate and enhance the distinctiveness of villages. The focus is on an integrated plan to include provision for the environment, people and community life, culture and heritage and to create a sense of identity and pride. A key requirement is that the process is community-led and the first public meeting took place in the autumn at which members of the local community came up with a number of suggestions. A working group was established to co-ordinate the development of a plan and to liaise with the local community. A Renaissance cabin has been recently erected in the village to facilitate interaction between the members of the community and the working group. The cabin is open on Saturday mornings from 10.30am to 12.30pm and people are actively encouraged to drop in and engage in the planning process. The working group is particularly interested in hearing from anyone in the area who may be able to provide information, photographs or any item of interest on local history or heritage.
