Foster home sought for teenage girl

Dear sir - Fostering provides an experience of home life for children who for various reasons cannot live with their own families for a short or long periods of time. The fostering staff at Three Steps Fostering Service is looking for a foster carer/fostering family willing to provide a long term placement for 15 year-old teenage girl, commencing as soon as possible. Mary (not her real name) is a lively chatty and affectionate teenager with a great sense of humour. Mary loves art, music, telling jokes and shopping for clothes. She has a huge love of animals especially horses and dogs, and attends horse riding and is competent at this sport. She also participates in dog training sessions weekly and her teacher compliments her often on her ability to teach dogs attending the classes. Mary is generally healthy, has a good appetite and sleeps well. Mary is diagnosed as having a mild to moderate intellectual disability and requires medication for epilepsy. She thrives on one to one attention and requires gentle prompting if in a larger group. Mary enjoys school and takes pride in completing her schoolwork. She needs support to express her feelings. When Mary is upset she can emotionally distance herself from others and occasionally in the form of negative behaviour. We are looking for a family, couple or single applicant to provide Mary with a long term placement preferably in a rural setting. A comprehensive package of training and support will offered along with a fostering payment. All fostering applicants will be assessed and Garda vetted. If you think you could help Mary please contact our fostering team on (046) 905 9560 or our Fostering Social Worker on (087) 952 8636.
