Soccer update w/e18th December

Trim Celtic progressed to the last 32 of the Leinster Junior Cup after a very close encounter with top Carlow side New Oak Boys. Trim had to pull out all the stops as they found themselves two goals down at the interval. They made their intentions known from an early stage after the resumption as they piled on the pressure. Derek Donohoe reduced the deficit after 62 minutes and 10 minutes later Paul Campbell levelled. Extra-time failed to divide the two closely matched sides and the omens did not look good for Trim as they missed their first spot kick in the penalty shoot out. It was left to 'keeper Barry O'Callaghan to rescue his side with two brilliant saves along with successful conversions from Keith Jones, Donohoe, Cyril Halton, and James Goggins. Next up for Trim Celtic is a home tie against AUL side Darndale. It was no such luck for the final MDL team left in the FAI Junior Cup, Kentstown Rovers where they went down by 0-1 to Bridge United from Kilkenny. The conditions also played a part in this match as all the players had to tread very wearily on a very hard and slippery surface. In the only domestic Match played at the weekend Boyne Valley who are languishing in the lower regions of Div 4 caused an upset in the Challenge Cup when they overcame Div 2 side Skryne-Tara by 2-1. This was a tie that had already had two attempts to stage in the past, and on this occasion both sides showed some great initiative by booking Kingscourt's excellent FIFA 2 All Weather Pitch. Boyne's scorers were Mark Matthews after 10 minutes, Skryne-Tara equalised midway through the first half. Andy Leonard scored hat proved to be the winning goal close to the interval.
