Sail the high seas for Scottish charity

Dear sir - Scottish sailing charity, Ocean Youth Trust Scotland, is looking for 12 daring individuals to sail across the notorious Bay of Biscay in a bid to raise essential funds for young people in its brand new adult charity challenge, The Biscay Bounce. Open to all abilities, whether accomplished sailor or complete novice, a 12-strong crew will battle the treacherous seas for which this stretch of the Atlantic is best known, during a 10-day adventure, culminating on arrival at La Coruna on Spain's North West coast in time to enjoy the spectacle of the Tall Ships Races. Departing on 30th July 2012, challengers will be expected to take part in all aspects of running the boat - from sailing, steering, navigating and changing sails while on-watch to sleeping, cooking, eating and whale-watching while off duty. OYT Scotland's highly qualified sea staff will guide the crew aboard Alba Explorer, a 72ft ocean-racing yacht. A fundraising challenge as much as a physical trial, each person must raise a minimum of £2,950 which will go towards funding adventure under sail for young people. OYT Scotland inspires positive change in young people through the challenge of adventure under sail. Residential voyages aboard its fleet of sail training vessels provide a powerful and unique environment for the personal and social development of young people regardless of ability, background, financial or social circumstance. Ocean Youth Trust Scotland's previous challenges, including the Iceland Challenge and the Arctic Adventure, have proved to be hugely successful, each raising more than £30,000 for the charity. An information evening about The Biscay Bounce will be held in Glasgow on Tuesday 13th December at 7pm.
