Trim Traveller families to move into new €2m estate this month

Fine Gael councillor Maria Murphy, who is chairperson on the Traveller Accomodation Committee of Meath County Council, has welcomed the progress on the new St Martin's Park development on Trim's ring road. Last year, work commenced on the refurbishment of the former St Martin's Park halting site. The families which occupied the site were relocated to a temporary site next door while the project was ongoing. When the project is completed, the temporary site will be returned to a greenfield site. Work on the new St Martin's Park development is now nearing completion, the councillor said. "The 14 families will be moving into their new, permanent homes around the end of September. The families have been fully consulted throughout the project. I visited the site last week and was very impressed with the work to date. The 14 houses are a mix of bungalows and two-storey houses," she said, describing it as a groundbreaking project for Meath County Council. "This project has been funded by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government at a cost of €2m. The contract was awarded to Galway company, Atlantic Developments Ltd. Thanks is due to the staff of Meath County Council who have worked hard to bring this project to completion," added Cllr Murphy.
