Inaugural Sports Achiever award for Ronan

Ratoath Senior National School pupil Ronan Cahill was announced as the 2011 Meath Chronicle / Newgate Mazda Sports Achiever at last week's inaugural presentation evening. The innovative awards scheme was developed by Newgate Motors business manager Gary Hoey in conjunction with the Meath Chronicle as a way of recognising the huge efforts which Meath children make through their involvement in sport. "It's not all about winning on the pitch or on the track, it's as much about making the effort to take part in some instances," he stated at last week's awards at Newgate Motors, Navan. The Ratoath pupil has displayed fantastic determination to get involved in sport and was nominated by his school through the monthly process. He has coped with illness for many years which has curtailed his playing activities, but he is always eager to assist the team. When Ratoath won the Div 1 final of the Fingal League, his brother Enda was the captain and he praised Ronan for his tremendous spirit on the sideline which inspired the team to victory. That remark received the biggest cheer of the day and on Tuesday of last week, Ronan received another big cheer. Illness has curtailed his capability to attend school on a regular basis, but he provides great help for the secretary and delivers information from class to class. He is a big Liverpool supporter and was also a mascot for the Irish rugby team when they won the Six Nations. His parents, Linda and David were very proud of their son last week, and rightly so. The Sports Achievers awards will be launched again in September and will be open to primary schools pupils.
