Trim chef wins care award

A local chef from Knightsbridge Nursing Home in Trim has won the 'Chef Of The Year Award' at care provider Barchester Healthcare's Care Awards 2011. Laurentia Vaughan, who is the head chef at Knightsbridge Village, was selected from more than 600 entries from across the UK and Ireland. She was nominated for her dedication to residents by consistently providing high quality food and cuisine and was presented with her trophy at a glitzy awards ceremony recently held in Birmingham. Laurentia was one of seven finalists to compete in the culinary cook-off at Beckett's Farm Cookery School in Birmingham. Celebrity chef and judge Paul Rankin thought her dishes were the cream of the crop. Mary Morris, regional operations director at Knightsbridge Village, said: "All of us at the home are thrilled. This is a major achievement for Laurentia and the award could not have gone to someone who deserves it more. This award not only recognises all of her hard work, but it also shows that the quality of the cooking we provide here is just as good as the care."
