Local PP among 'victims' at K'wood charity 'waxing' event

Fr John Cooney, parish priest of Kilmainhamwood, and former Meath GAA footballers Brian Stafford and Raymond Magee, were among the volunteers who subjected themselves to being 'waxed' at a recent fundraising night in the village. Three kilmainhamwood sisters, Mary, Angela and Sylvia Magee, raised €3,500 for the Irish Heart Foundation and Barnardos through the very successful waxathon and head shave night, which was held in McKenna's pub. The sisters also will run in the London City Marathon on Sunday 17th April and hope to raise €5,000 for the Irish Heart Foundation. They also recently raised almost €900 through a collection in Navan Town Centre. Barbara Cassidy of The Arches Beauty Salon in Nobber carried out the waxing on the many volunteers on the night, which included former local Meath GAA greats Brian Stafford and Ray Magee. Fr Cooney was also one of the volunteers to get his leg waxed. Mary said: "In total, we raised just over €3,500, which we are absolutely delighted with, and we also raised just under €900 in the collection in Navan Town Centre the weekend before, so we are on target for our €5,000 goal." The group Coscán played traditional and folk music on the night. Indeed, the singer of the group, John Shankey, from Nobber, was also one of the volunteers for the waxing and duly got his underarm and chest hair removed. Phil Cassidy from Kilmainhamwood, who got his chest waxed, later sang 'Me and Bobby Magee' with Coscán.
