Woman suffers serious leg injuries after being trapped beneath car

A 28-year-old woman remains in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda this week after sustaining serious leg injuries when she was struck by a vehicle in Navan in the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident occurred in the Bridge Street area of the town at around 5am and emergency services were immediately called to the scene. It is understood that Navan Fire Service were called as the female pedestrian had been trapped underneath the car. The woman suffered a serious leg injury and an injury to her right shoulder and she was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where she remained at time of going to press yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon. It is understood that a large public order incident ensued where a number of Garda units had to be called to provide assistance. A garda was physically assaulted and ambulance personnel were threatened and obstructed as they tried to assist at the scene. It is believed that the alleged driver of the vehicle involved in the incident, who has an address in the Dublin area, was assaulted and was also taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. The scene was preserved and a technical examination was carried out the next morning. Gardai are in possession of CCTV footage of the area, which they are examining as part of their ongoing investigations.
