Memorable win for Navan Town

Navan Town's odyssey in the FAI Youth Cup continues after they racked up another big victory in the competition this time firing five past Kildare hosts Confey on Sunday. In the previous round Robbie Wogan's Navan Town overcame the challenge of Home Farm in what turned out to be a seven-goal thriller. Among the Navan Town goalscorers in that game was Cathal Smith and he was on the mark again against Confey who looked like they might enjoy a fruitful day when they took the lead early on. Undaunted, Navan Town, who play in the North Dublin League because of a lack of playing opportunities locally, kept working away and were rewarded for their efforts on the 20th minute mark when Conor Finnegan netted. It got better for the Meath side soon after when Smith fired to the net. Again Smith was in the right place at the right time to grab his second and his team's third to make it 3-1 at the interval. Smith's influence on the game continued to be significant and he demonstrated his ability to take chances when he completed his hat-trick to put Navan Town in a commanding position. Any doubt about the outcome of this tie was put to bed when Navan Town got their fifth. This time the ball was despatched to the net by Michael O'Brien. Best for the winners in a fine team display were Conor Finnegan and Paddy O'Neill (pictured). Navan Town now face Malahide or Broadford away in the last 32 of the competition.
