Navan Gardai investigate spate of local vehicle thefts

Navan Gardai are investigating the theft of a number of vehicles in the area in the past week. On Friday of last week, a red Nissan Micra was stolen from a house at Curragwhtown, Navan, between 5pm and 6.30pm. The vehicle was later found abandoned at Clogherboy, Navan, at around 8pm that evening. The same evening, at around 8pm, a grey Nissan Micra was recovered in the Curraghtown area. It had been stolen from Academy Street on New Year's Eve. A 2004-registered white Ford van was stolen from Bridge Street at around 8pm on Friday evening. A short time later, the vehicle was spotted by Gardai approaching Drogheda from Donore village and Gardai followed the vehicle, which crashed into a parked car and a wall at Rathmullen Park in Drogheda. The three occupants of the van fled the vehicle but two were arrested, while the third escaped. A male in his late teens with an address in Navan is due to appear at Drogheda Court later this month charged with allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle. A female, who is in her 30s and from the Drogheda area, was released without charge pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Meanwhile, a white Peugot van was stolen from Balreask Village, Navan, between 9pm on Friday 7th January and 9am on 8th January. The 1999-registered vehicle has not yet been recovered. Navan Gardai, meanwhile, are investigating a burglary at Glanbia, Kilberry, in the early hours of Thursday 6th January, The break-in occurred between 12.40am and 1.20am. The yard was broken into and intruders entered the office. CCTV shows two males wearing hoodies who were on the premises for approximately two minutes. It is understood that nothing was taken but that some damage was caused to a window. Gardai are investigating a break-in to a Nissan Almera at Dalgan Park, Navan, between 1.30pm and 2.30pm last Thursday. The owner had been out walking and returned to the vehicle to find the front driver's window had been smashed. A handbag, driving licence and a set of house keys were stolen from the car. Gardai are investigating a criminal damage incident where the back window of a silver BMW parked at Academy Square, Navan, was smashed at around 1.45pm on Wednesday 5th January. Navan Gardai are also investigating the legitamacy of a door-to-door collection being carried out in the Canterbrook area of the town on the evening of 5th January after Gardai received a number of enquiries about the veracity of the collection.
