Elderly couple robbed in deception burglary

An elderly couple were shocked and shaken after being the victims of a deception burglary at their Proudstown home, outside Navan, on Monday afternoon. The couple, who are in their 80s, answered a knock to their door where they found three men who claimed they were there to check their water supply. One of the men kept the couple talking at the door, while the other two searched the house. It is believed that they made off with a quantity of cash in the region of €5,000. The couple were shocked and traumatised after being duped but were not physcially injured. The three culprits are described as being in their 30s with dark hair. A 1999-registered white saloon car was seen in the area at the time and Gardai are appealing to anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact them at Navan Garda Station. Gardai have carried out house-to-house enquiries as part of their investigations. Local Gardai are also investigating an aggravated burglary at a house at Woodlands, Navan, in the early hours of last Thursday morning. The resident returned to her home at around 5am following a party and disturbed two burglars in her house. One of the males had a hammer and threatened the woman, ordering that she hand over her handbag. The culprits took the woman's handbag and a a laptop computer and fled the scene through the back patio door. One of the males was wearing a black jacket while the other was wearing a grey hoodie. Both had scarves covering their faces. The same night, another house in Woodlands was also targeted. The residents were in bed asleep and discovered the next morning that their house had been broken into and that a number of items of jewellery, a small quantity of cash and a laptop computer had been taken. A house at Silverlawn, Navan, was broken into between 1am and 5.30am yesterday (Tuesday) morning and the keys of a vehicle taken. The resident got up that morning to find that their home had been broken into and a 2005 silver Toyota Avensis parked outside was taken. The vehicle has not been recovered. A laptop, Nintendo Wii games console and a television were also taken. Gardai have examined CCTV and two males were seen in the vicinity at the time. One was wearing a light-coloured hoodie and light-coloured bottoms. The second had a dark hoodie and light bottoms.
