Rathmolyon clubman Martin O'Halloran will be looking for support from delegates at next Sunday's annual convention.

Seoighe and O’Halloran set for GAA convention

Clann na nGael clubman Cathal Seoighe could be facing a little bit of a dilemma on Sunday at the Meath GAA annual convention. Nominated for five different positions, the current holder of the position of Irish Officer has a unique record which he achieved during his term as vice-chairman. Seoighe is not eligible to contest the position of vice-chairman at next Sunday's meeting as he has already completed five years in that role. “I am not eligible to run for the position of vice-chairman, but I'm looking forward to the convention and hopefully I will be elected to serve another term,†he commented. Seoighe has clocked up the five years under three different regimes. Initially he served as vice-chairman to Fintan Ginnity, he followed that with a term in the same role when Brendan Dempsey was elected chairman. More recently he completed his five-year term as vice-chairman when Barney Allen was elected chairman. Seoighe has also been nominated for the position of chairman, but when contacted by the Meath Chronicle this week indicated that it would be unlikely that he would contest that position. That leaves three options - assistant-secretary, Leinster Council or Irish Officer. He has already served a term as assistant-secretary during which he handled the fixtures. MARTIN O'HALLORAN There will also be a contest for the position of PRO as Martin O'Halloran confirmed to the Meath Chronicle this week that he intends to let his name go forward. “I'm delighted to have received a nomination for the position and I think that when you are nominated for an important role that you should let your name go forward and make a contest of it,†stated O'Halloran. The Rathmolyon clubman has been involved with hurling in Meath for many years and was formerly the PRO of the old Meath Hurling Board, a position he maintained when hurling matters were relegated to a sub-committee - the Hurling Promotion and Development Committee. O'Halloran is likely to attract plenty of support from the hurling clubs who send delegates to the convention and he could make it a close contest against Summerhill's Anne McDonnell who will be completing her first year in the role. The Summerhill woman took over the reins at last year's convention when Brendan Cummins had to step aside due to the application of the five-year rule.
