Former Eurovision star opens school of music in town
The Royal County School of Music, Watergate Street, Trim, was officially opened on Thursday of last week and, just weeks after opening its doors to its first students, there are already almost 100 pupils on the books. The music school has been opened by Brian and Kim Grant, who are originally from Dublin but have been living in Trim for 10 years. Kim, then Kim Jackson, represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in Rome in 1991 with the song 'Could It Be That I'm In Love'. Kim and Brian are also members of a popular Abba tribute band, Abba Vous. Mrs Grant said: "We have wanted to open a music school for a long time. We know the area well and know Trim is a musical town with a great long tradition of music. We teach guitar, bass, drums, fiddle, bodhran, piano, banjo, whistle, vocals, song writing and hold band workshops, from absolute beginners to more advanced, for children and for adults." She added that they will also add more instruments if there is demand. The Royal County School of Music has seven teachers, including Kim and Brian, who is a bass player. While the official opening of the school took place last week, the first lessons began on 30th August. Mrs Grant said they had hoped to have 100 students by Christmas and are already at 98, less than a month after opening.
