Crossing finally installed at Trim school

The long-awaited pedestrian crossing at Boyne Community School in Trim has finally come to fruition, though the electrical power has not yet been connected to the lights. For many years, the school's board of management and parents have been campaigning for improved safety measures at the school which is located on a bend on the busy Trim-Dublin Road. Trim area councillors approved funding earlier this year for a pedestrian crossing to be installed and works were carried out out last month on the crossing. However, the flashing amber lights have not yet been connected and remain covered until the ESB connect them. The road markings are in place, however, and students have begun to use the crossing. Trim area engineer Vincent Collins said a request has been put in to the ESB for the lights to be connected and he hoped this would be done in the coming weeks. Boyne Community School principal Elizabeth Cahill said the school is delighted to have had the crossing installed as they had been campaigning for it for a long time. She said the issue had been coming up at board of management meetings since the amalgamation of the two schools. "We feel it will make access to the school safer for all members of the school community. We would like to thank our local councillors Tracy McElhinney, Bill Carey, Jimmy Fegan and Ray Butler for their contributions in getting the pedestrian crossing at the school," added Ms Cahill.
