The new Dunboyne commuter rail line will be opened tomorrow (Thursday) and the first passenger services will commence early on Friday morning.

New Dunboyne commuter line to open this Thursday

The new Dunboyne M3 commuter rail route will be officially opened tomorrow (Thursday) by the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey. A special train will depart Docklands station at 11.30am, calling to Clonsilla at 11.46, Dunboyne at 11.55, M3 Parkway at 12 noon and return to Dunboyne for 12.10pm, where refreshments will be served and the line officially opened. The train will return to Clonsilla and Docklands following the opening ceremony. Passenger services proper will commence at 06.50 on Friday morning from the M3 Parkway station. The new rail line route is from Dunboyne to the Docklands station via Clonsilla, Coolmine, Castleknock, Phoenix Park, Ashtown and Broombridge. The journey time will be about 27 minutes at peak time. The price of an adult day return ticket to Dublin will be €4.20 and a weekly rolling rail ticket will be €19.30. Service pattern upon opening will be at half hourly intervals and the infrastructure will allow for greater frequency as demand increases, according to Iarnrod Eireann. There will be 300 car park spaces at Dunboyne Station with a parking charge of €2 per day or €8 for a weekly ticket. The new M3 Parkway station will feature a free 1,200-space car park, the largest park and ride facility in the country, and a pilot project of its kind. There will be an expected 31-minute journey time from the M3 Parkway station to Dublin. The price of an adult day return ticket to Dublin will be €6 and a weekly rolling rail ticket will be €26.80.
