Ledwith the high king of Tara

Fr Murphy athlete Andrew Ledwith put in a strong performance to win the Tara 5km Road Race in a time of 15.31 on Friday evening. Derek Croal secured second place in 16.17 while Eoin Durkan finished third in 16.28. The junior men's race was won by Thomas Moran with Liam O'Reilly second. Tom O'Connor put in a strong display to take the master men's o-40 race with Tommy Maher in second and Phelim Glynn third. The master men's o-50 event was won by Paddy Mangan and he finished ahead of Dominic Moran and Luke Mulligan. The o-60 race was won by Richard Duffy. Fiona Reid was best in the women's senior event with a time of 18.41 while Sharon Monaghan was second and Chantelle Farrelly third. The junior category was won by Grace Higgins with Rachel O'Brien in second place. The women's o-45 race proved to be a good event for Linda Gunning as she crossed the finishing line ahead of Ann Marie McCloskey with Margaret Neary third. Rose Healy rose to the challenge to take the master women's o-55 race. Bohermeen's Karen Dunne claimed the Leinster title in the u-17 pentathlon in the Leinster Juvenile Combined Event championships at Claremont Stadium. First up in the programme of events was the high jump with Dunne clearing 1.42 metres. This was immediately followed by the 200m sprint, with Dunne recovering from a bad start to finish in third place. Following a short break the shot putt was next up and in this event Dunne, who finished third in the recent heptathlon, achieved a new personal best of 8.91m. Then the long jump was called and the Bohermeen athlete registered a leap of 4.90m, just slightly under her personal best and placing her in first place. The last event was the 800m and Dunne ran a superb race to wrap up first place in a time of 2.34 minutes, her best time this year.
