O'Brien set for third term
Notice to clubs this week from Meath GAA management committee indicates support for outgoing Meath senior football manager Eamonn O'Brien. Following this week's meeting of the 14-person management committee it has emerged that O'Brien will be nominated at the next Co Committee meeting (Monday 6th September). "Eamonn O'Brien will be proposed by the management committee as manager of the Meath senior football team for 2011. That notice has been sent to clubs along with the agenda for the next Co Committee meeting," confirmed Co Committee secretary Cyril Creavin. When he was appointed, O'Brien was handed the option of a three-year term, to be reviewed annually. Delegates were informed at the August (Monday 16th) meeting that the matter would be on the agenda for the September meeting, but there was no discussion allowed at the last Co Committee meeting despite a request from St Patrick's delegate John Purfield. Notice of the latest management committee's recommendation was sent to the clubs this week and unless the former Walterstown player fails to be ratified by delegates on Monday 6th September, he will take control for a third year. If O'Brien is ratified, one of his first tasks will be to appoint a new team trainer after Sean Kelly's decision to step down from the role.
