Maguire sidelined after fall

Kilmessan jockey Jason Maguire sustained a bad injury in a fall at Worcester last night. The Meath jockey was diagnosed with a broken ankle and a fractured shin bone following a fall from Morning Sunshine. Maguire was on board the Donald McCain-trained Morning Sunshine which fell at the final fence in a two-mile novices' handicap chase. Maguire was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, but was transferred to Royal Gloucester Hospital this morning. Morning Sunshine had a fairly dismal record on the track and in 13 runs failed to finish on six occasions. The seven-year-old gelding was off the track since March of last year when he unseated Paul Benson at Sedgefield, but returned to action at Worcester last month and fell four from home. Morning Sunshine is out of an Irish mare, Culfadda Girl, which was trained by Pat Hughes and Maguire actually finished eighth on her in a maiden hurdle at Thurles in 1998. However, in seven starts Culfadda Girl never troubled the judge.
