Thugs steal €20 from Beauparc pensioner

An elderly man endured a terrifying ordeal on Monday night after two men forced their way into his home and demanded money. The man, who is in his 80s, was in bed at his home at Newtown, Beauparc, at 11.30pm when the men entered his home. They grabbed hold of him by the chest and demanded money. The raiders made off with a €20 note and some small change. The man was not injured but was shaken by his ordeal. The men are described as being in their 20s or early 30s and spoke with Dublin accents. They were of stocky build and approximately 5' 9" in height. They were unkempt in appearance. The victim heard a car and it is understood that the thugs took off in the direction of Dublin. The man alerted a neighbour who contacted Gardai. The scene was technically examined and house-to-house enquiries were carried out. Slane Gardai are investigating and anyone with any information is asked to contact Slane Garda Station. The theft of two tractor units from a yard at Newrath, Slane, between 6am and 11am yesterday (Tuesday) morning is also being investigated by Slane Gardai. A Volvo 01 CE-registered tractor unit and silver Mercedes 98 WX-registered unit were taken. Summerhill Gardai are appealing for information on a stolen red Mercedes box van parked in Rathmolyon village for several days which is believed to have been used in the theft of fuel from cars and home heating oil tanks. On Tuesday morning of last week, Gardai noticed the van while on patrol and, when they checked the registration plates, they found that the vehicle had been stolen in Northern Ireland in the middle of last month. The vehicle was parked in a car park in the village. On inspection, it was found that the van contained five gallon oil drums and a siphon pump in the back. Gardai believe the vehicle was being used to siphon petrol and diesel from cars, trucks and home heating oil tanks. The vehicle had been moved around the village a number of occasions over a week-long period. Anyone who noticed suspicious activity around the vehicle is asked to contact Summerhill Garda Station in confidence. The window of a Toyota Landcruiser parked at Collon Road, Slane, was smashed and a handbag taken at around 8.40pm on Sunday, 6th June. A break-in to a car at Dowth between 5.30pm and 6pm, the same day where a handbag was taken after the window was removed from the rear passenger side, is also being investigated. Gardai are investigating a burglary at Fennor, Slane, between 4.30pm and 5pm on Tuesday, 1st June. The back patio door was forced and the house was ransacked. A small amount of cash was taken and a technical examination of the scene was carried out. A blue English-registered Vauxhall Zafira was stolen from Athlumney Woods, Navan, between midnight and 1.15pm yesterday (Tuesday). Gardai are also investigating the theft of a 94 registered Green Nissan Primera that was parked at St Ultan's Terrace, Navan, between 11.30pm on Saturday night and 1.30pm on Sunday. A burglary at Dean Hill, Navan, between 9.30am and 7.40pm on Tuesday 1st June is also being investigated. A rear window was smashed and the house was ransacked but it is understood that nothing was taken, Navan Gardai arrested a man after receiving reports that a house was being burgled at Leighsbridge Lodge, Navan, on Thursday 3rd June. A patrol car went to the scene and a man was arrested in the garden of the house. Property stolen from the house was recovered. A man was questioned and has been charged in relation to the burglary. Ballivor Gardai are investigating a break-in to a jeep parked at Main Street between 2am and 4am on Sunday. The door lock of the 04 MH grey Mitsubishi Pajero was popped and the ignition was tampered with. It is understood that nothing was taken from the vehicle. Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact Ballivor or Trim Garda Stations. A burglary at Colehill, Kinnegad, on Thursday, 3rd June, is being investigated by Longwood Gardai. The break-in occurred between 9am and 2.15pm when a bedroom window was forced. The house was rummaged through and two gold bracelets valued at €400 were taken. A dark-coloured 02 or 04 WW Volvo car was seen acting suspiciously that morning and anyone who noticed the vehicle or has any more information is asked to contact their local Garda station. Gardai are investigating an incident at Anneville, Clonard, where two well-dressed men trespassed at a house. They walked up the drive and around the house. Both were between 5ft 8" and 5ft 10" tall wearing slacks and white shirts. They may have entered the house but it is understood that nothing was taken.
