Sean Carey needs public votes on Sunday night.

Sean still in with a shout in 'Fame'

Sean Carey from Dunshaughlin is set to battle it out live in The Helix this Sunday on RTÉ's 'Fame: The Musical'. The Spar-sponsored competition is offering one young male and one young female the chance to kick-start their career and land the lead role in the nationwide tour of 'Fame: The Musical'. The 18 year-old is a first year student of media, Irish and history at NUI Maynooth, and has been involved in musical theatre for the past four years, performing in a number of amateur musicals. The search for the stars of 'Fame: The Musical' was launched in January and thousands of applications were received. Twelve finalists were chosen from the hundreds of performers who went on to audition at locations in Dublin, Cork, and in London's West End. The first six finalists performed last Sunday, and 22 year-old Drew Millar from Glasgow was the first to say goodbye to his Fame dream. Sean, who entertained Navan schoolchildren at the Navan Smarter Travel Walking Bus at the Fair Green on Monday, is one of six finalists to perform this Sunday and is set to bring some Rat Pack-style to the Helix as he performs the Dean Martin classic, 'Ain't That A Kick in the Head'. Sean said: "I'll be locked in rehearsals all of this week preparing for the big performance on Sunday night. As well as two days of vocal rehearsals, we also have choreography to learn for group numbers. It's a huge challenge to perform in front of a live TV audience when you're also under scrutiny from the judges and the live audience in The Helix but it's a challenge I'm really looking forward to. I can't wait to get out there on that stage!" As well as performing for the public vote, the finalists must also win over the judges, stage producer, Robert C Kelly, actor and director Simon Delaney and actress and singer, Erica Gimpel, who starred as Coco Hernandez in the original 'Fame' TV series. 'Fame: The Musical' is live on RTE One this Sunday at 6.30pm with a results show at 8.30pm.
