'Your Town, Your Call' proposal for Kells

A 'Your Town, Your Call' competition could be be held in Kells in the coming months to to pick two proposals which would make Kells a more attractive place in which to live and do business. Cllr Sarah Reilly has proposed a competition which would mirror the existing national competition 'Your Country, Your Call'. She hopes the competition would produce two proposals that would allow businesses to grow, employment to be created, prosperity to flourish and community spirit to blossom in the town. "It will gives the people of Kells a chance to share their creativity. It is all about Kells. It aims to create employment and prosperity for its inhabitants, whilst at the same time generating hope, confidence and positive thinking," she said. Cllr Reilly is proposing that two winning proposals should be awarded €500 each and the winning proposals should be implemented by Kells Town council within a reasonable time frame. She suggests that the cash prizes be funded by placing a textile clothes bank at the rear of the town hall, in the car park. "This location has been chosen as Kells has had previous dumping problems at such banks. By placing the textile clothes bank in this location, close monitoring can be achieved and prosecutions hence made for illegal dumping activity," she said. She suggested the town council invite five people from the community, voluntary and business sectors to form a board to independently judge the competition and that the competition should be open to people living in Kells town. She is proposing that the winners should be announced at the launch of the Kells Summer Festival. Cllr Reilly's council colleagues have indicated that they will support the proposal for this competition if she irons out the details and brings the proposal back to the next meeting of the council.
