Well done to Athboy on St Patrick's Day Parade

(Editor, Meath Chronicle) Dear sir- On Wednesday 17th March 2010, I felt honoured at being a part of the Athboy community, despite being a foreigner. When I arrived at the Fair Green about 11.30am, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, and members of the local St Patrick's Day Parade Committee were doing their best to keep everybody in line - and on time. But it was a difficult job, with so many from Athboy and the surrounding areas waiting to be part of the 27th St Patrick's Day Parade. There were old - no, sorry - vintage cars, in very unusual colours, and tractors, members of the army, bands, leprechauns mingling with children showing off their faces painted like the Irish flag, green, or with shamrocks on their cheeks, Irish dancers (I can't get enough of them), fashion queens, gardai in their yellow jackets, even Louis Walsh took time off from promoting Jedward to walk around town, maybe looking for his next money spinner, and many, many more, and, of course, St Patrick himself. I am sure he was pleased to discover that he had his own cafe in town, at least for the day! It is amazing that a small town like Athboy can pull off a big event like this, with such success. A big 'thank you' and 'well done' to all who worked so hard to make sure it went like clockwork, and to all who entertained by taking part in the parade, and to the hard working volunteers, including those who had to clean up when everything had settled down. You have done us proud, and certainly put my Athboy on the map! Yours, Lis Rix, Gandon Court, Athboy.
