Bank of Ireland Student Award winner Kellie Allen from Eureka Secondary School, Kells.

Eureka student among regional talent winners

Kells student, Kellie Allen, from Eureka Secondary School, has been selected as one of 12 winners in the north-east region of the Bank of Ireland Student Awards 2010. Kellie received her award for sport in the senior category and now qualifies for the last stage of the competition where the judging panel will choose the final dozen national winners. Kellie has had a tremendous start to the new year as she was also the recipient of the inaugural youth award at the Meath Chronicle Sports Personality of the Year awards in February, for her equestrian prowess. She also plays football with Meath. This is the fifth year of the national competition, in which the Bank of Ireland recognises the talents of over 5,000 secondary school students across the country. All finalists will be awarded a certificate and prize to mark their achievement in the competition and their entries will be considered for inclusion in the national final. From these, one student will be chosen as the overall national winner and will be awarded a total cash prize of €4,500 plus €8,000 for their nominating school. Five students from Dunshaughlin Community School - Darren Rattigan, Lauren Smithers, Johanna Von Kietzell, Naomi Danaher and Sorcha Jordan of the school's student council - were also selected in the junior groups category.
