Jameson Award for Navan actor

Navan actor Patrick O'Donnell won the Best Actor (Male) Award at the Jameson International Film Festival in Dublin at the weekend for his role in 'The Fading Light', a low budget feature film, directed by Ivan Kavanagh, which also won the Best Irish Film. Director of photography for the shoot was Colin Downey from Garlow Cross. O'Donnell, from Blackcastle, won the award for his role as Peter, a special needs adult in the same film. 'The Fading Light' centres on a dying woman who, when is visited by her two daughters, long repressed family secrets that have devastated their lives rise to the surface. As the days pass, both sisters struggle with their own fears and doubts, their mother's imminent death forcing them to address their complex relationship. Shot with simplicity and featuring impressive performances from its young Irish cast, a highly emotive subject is tackled with great skill and control by talented young filmmaker Kavanagh. There was local success, too, at the Irish Film and Television Awards in Dublin. Navan composer and arranger Brian Byrne won the Original Score Award for his work on John Carney's 'Zonad', starring Cillian Murphy and Simon Delaney. The Special Irish Language Award went to 'Rásaí na Gaillimhe'. TG4's comedy drama series was produced by Meath County Councillor Eoin Holmes, and directed by Robert Quinn, and follows the fortunes of a disparate yet intricately connected group of characters through an exciting race week in the City of the Tribes. Tomm Moore's 'The Secret of Kells' won the animation category, with director and producer Moore also taking the Rising Star Award, sponsored by the Irish Film Board. All eyes will be on the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles this coming Sunday when Moore vies for an Academy Award for his work on the animated film based on the Book of Kells.
